MAYA (Lead)
African American Female, 30s–40s.
Strong dramatic role based on a true story. Maya is resilient, emotionally complex, and deeply human. After years of carrying the weight of childhood trauma and family secrets, she begins a journey toward healing, forgiveness, and self-discovery. The actor must convey vulnerability, strength, and transformation.

TAUSHA
African American Female, late 20s–30s.
Bold, energetic, and charismatic. Tausha is one of the women Maya meets during incarceration. She has a big personality, a quick wit, and a powerful gospel voice. Though she often uses humor to survive hardship, she becomes an important voice of encouragement and strength.

MS. CARRIE
African American Female, 50s–70s.
Warm, nurturing, and deeply spiritual. A motherly presence among the women. Ms. Carrie provides wisdom, compassion, and faith-based encouragement during the darkest moments.

KEISHA
African American Female, 20s–30s.
Street-smart and outspoken. Keisha uses humor and toughness as protection but carries deep emotional wounds. A character that blends comedy with powerful moments of honesty.

RENEE
African American Female, 20s–30s.
Reserved and thoughtful. Renee observes more than she speaks, but when she does speak, it carries weight. Represents quiet resilience.

Appears in the final scene during Maya’s audition. Adds lightness and realism to the moment that represents Maya’s new beginning.
